Thanksgiving Break

After a Pyjama Party with the Cheerleaders on Saturday night last weekend I had my first Thanksgiving meal on the following sunday with the family of my host dad. And I have to say it was really really good and a nice variety from all fastfood that we had the evenings before. Family came together, talked, played games and above all remembered all the things they were thankful for.

After a short three day week I was very thankful, that the weekend was already there and on this thursday we celebrated our second Thanksgiving with the family side if my host mom. We had again lots of very good food; turkey, match potatoes, noodles, oven fresh bread, corn, beans, salad are just a few examples and on the picture you can only see the first plate I had on this day.

The day after Thanksgiving known as Black Friday was the start of Christmas time here. Everyone run into the shops in the middle of the night to get the best deals they can find. Standing up 3 am for some shoes or the christmas present for the little girl? -it is ridiculous!
Buying the Christmas Tree in the next morning, that means go on the tree farm and find the one that fit best into your house and cut it down by yourself; going to Walmart to buy plenty of christmas lights for in and out of the house; and going downtown to see the lighting of the big tree at the monument is all part of the experience. After saying Santa Claus hello we left to finish this succesful day with dinner at BDubs - the place with the best chicken wings and sauces I've ever eaten in my life. Not forgetting the Huckleberry Limonade - it is soo good and I definitely don't no what I'm supposed to do without this place!

I already felt like sunday and the end of the weekend, but I'm glad that it was only friday night and the weekend was just about to start. I will see what else is waiting for me until I have to go back to school on monday. But one thing I know already for sure - I love Thanksgiving (:

Finally Friday

Friday, 11-11-11

Today is Veterans Day, but besides a boring 40 minutes memorial in the school gym is it a complete normal day. And it is friday, that means it is finally weekend and we have two days school off ((:
It is also the first friday night since ever on that we are not know what we can do... football is over and basketball has not started yet. But I'm sure we will find something until it is getting dark and my first self made american pizza will be a good start. But for now we are sitting in the living room and my little germany fan is eating one of her popstickels with Bella next to her.

Football is over /:

Football is over now. I have never seen so many boys in tears. We had friday our Final Sectional Game and we lost. It was an unexpected loss and nobody have thought about getting out. Until this day everyone hoped that we will make it to States. I know we have a really good football team and I really don't know what happend on this day. After 14 -0 the 14-1 and not the 15-0 everybody was hoping for. But I'm still proud to be a Cougar and we all know who are the winners of the hearts. Guys you had a really good season and all of you did a really good job and I'm luckily that I was there and had the chance to see you playing. This was probably a 'one-time-in-life-thing' and I will never forget it... And now chin up, it is time for the basketball season to start!

Halloween !

Well, Halloween is already one week ago, but last week I had no time to tell about it, and so I'm going to tell you now how american Halloween look like. First of all Halloween is not celebrated on only one day; houses and frontyards are decorated weeks before and take the fall days into a nice atmosphere. Also Haunted Houses are opened only in this few weeks and almost every teenager likes to visit them.

But now about my last weekend. On saturday we went to a bonfire and cooked hotdogs and after we were all sated the bigger kids and the dads went into the barn to get ready for the hayride. We put our masks on and were taken into the forest to scarry the little kids, who were coming soon after us. My part was to switch the light of a car on, that is hidden behind some pushes and to toot if they pass us, but this was nothing, if you saw the dummy flying shortly before over the heads of the children and the boys jumping out of their bushes.
We were glad when the hayride was over and somebody took us back to the bonfire, because it became already really cold. And after warming up ourselfs we began playing basketball in the middle of the night until we got tired and just wanted to fall in our beds for sleeping in!

On sunday we went to a family lunch and cooked again hotdogs over the fire and if you want to believe or not, but I can say this were enough hotdogs for the next few months! And finally on this day I got all my pictures back on my laptop ((:
After eating togehter, sitting, and talking we went back home and carved pumkins. It was the first time ever for me to do something like this and I have to say at the end they looked really good. We put candles inside and took the pumpkins outside, so that everyone could see our nice results. And if you think the day is comming to an ene if it gets dark outside, than you are defenitly wrong on halloween. It was sunday night and the last day, that haunted houses are open. So we took our last chance to go there. First we went on a hayride through the forest and this one was a lot scarrier than the one we made for the little kids. Things seemed to fall on you, monster made scarry noises and danced, and lots of more happened. But against all the things that were waiting in the Barn of us you can describe the hayride as a fun trip. The Barn was one of the most scarried things happend in years for me. And on the top my host sister and host mom sent me first trough all the rooms. People sreamed, people came centimeter near to you, and starred weird in your face. People were hidden in walls, in tons, behind corners. Little kids were in your ways and monsters showed you the way where you have to go. One of the rooms were completely dark and full of smoke and during trying to find the door hands grabed your legs. Things moved on places were you never thought they would. Yeah it was very scarry, but I liked to be scarried, then it was Halloween! Finally we went home and fall directly in sleep, to bad that on the next day was school /:

Certainly Trick or Treat is also a part of the American Halloween and I have still lots of candy in my room. And faster than anyone thought, Halloween was over, and I hope next year back in Germany it will be as good as it was here, although there are probably a lot of differences.
